For the last 18 years, Supplies for Success, a 501(c)(3) public charity based in Sagaponack, has been pursuing its mission to supply the physical tools needed for disadvantaged American children to look to education for better lives. They host and sponsor community backpack assembly events, as well as corporate events and events at schools and summer camps to provide new backpacks filled with age-appropriate school supplies to children in need before school starts. Such events take place in NYC, the Hamptons, Long Island, Westchester, Baltimore and Florida. For the past eight years, the backpacking event in August in Bridgehampton distributes more than 15,000 backpacks locally. Since inception, they have donated over 100,000 backpacks. In the Hamptons, they work with most of the local schools, domestic violence shelters, human service organizations, churches and synagogues.
With children out of school on account of the Coronavirus Pandemic, they established an emergency fund to address the needs of young children and their struggling families. Supplies for Success crated ‘CareKits' for kids aged 3-8 that include educational materials, art supplies, and more to keep them busy and learning. To date, they have donated over 2,000, with more than 700 in the Hamptons area. The CareKits are shipped to and distributed by food providers including, Island Harvest and East Hampton School District, and to hospitals, including Northwell Health, for the children of their frontline healthcare employees.
