Founded more than 40 years ago by members of the Southampton community to help those in need. A small food pantry and an emergency assistance outreach were launched. The organization quickly grew, and in 2003 Heart of the Hamptons (HOH) became a non-profit organization registered with the state of New York. Their mission has always been to help those in need in the community, and over the years developed a network of programs and dedicated volunteers to strengthen their outreach and effectiveness.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, HOH food pantry distribution numbers increased by 300% and they registered 801 new households to their food pantry, bringing them to a total of 1,088 registered households. Further, HOH successfully distributed over 150,000 meals by mid-October, compared to 48,000 last year. They also run Assistance Programs which include crisis intervention, medical assistance funding, aid for seniors, school supplies and holiday gifts for local children. HOH helps to connect people in need with resources available in the local community.
